Hornsby Relay For Life

Rofe Park - 2nd & 3rd November 2019

This was our second event with the Hornsby Relay For Life team, the first being the Hope Ball, but this was now the MAIN EVENT with our Social Media Photo Booth!

For anyone who doesn't know, Relay For Life is a Cancer Council initiative, with fundraising events happening all around the world. The relay itself is a 24 hour event, where registered teams participate in walking the track, with each team member taking it in turns for the entire 24 hour time period. Skirting the track are team tents, where team members get to take a break and get some sleep in between walking shifts.

There's a HUGE schedule of events to keep everyone entertained, food and market stalls, as well as the much needed coffee van!

In true Relay Spirit, SwitchBooth was on site for the entire 24 hours offering a splash of fun for the teams as they made their way around the track. There was a voluntary gold coin donation, with all money raised given to Relay For Life, because every dollar counts in the fight against cancer!

What SwitchBooth Offered Hornsby Relay For Life

It was decided that for an outdoor event such as this, our Lolly Booth would be best suited.

Lolly is our fully digital Social Media Photo Booth.

There are some great advantages with a Digital Booth, firstly with a choice between Still Image Sessions, GIF (Animated Still Images) or Boomerang Sessions, you get to choose how your guests interact with the booth.

SwitchBooth offered Hornsby Relay For Life all 3 formats with customised overlays to compliment each style. We just loved creating the walking logo for the GIF sessions, and as you can see, they were all a hit with everyone!

BOOMERANG SESSIONS

STILL IMAGE SESSIONS

GIF SESSIONS

The second advantage of a Social Media Photo Booth is that Photos, GIF's and Boomerang files can be sent directly to Apple Phones with AirDrop, or Emailed to guests within a few clicks.

Lastly, choosing Digital Only means that branded Photos or GIF files have an indefinite lifespan. Your brand or event will remain in circulation forever!

Event Photography

As a bonus, SwitchBooth captured some really great event photos as the relay progressed.

The day began at 9am with the Opening Celebration and Welcome to Country ceremony followed by a Survivors & Carers lap and Hornsby RSL Pipe Band.

At 9.20 the official 24 hour challenge began, with hundreds of people taking to the track.

It was fantastic to see this event unfold, with LIVE entertainment happening at the main and field stage.

There were performances by the St Leo's Stage Band and the Loreto Normanhurst Choir, as well as an array of other bands which concluded at around 9pm with Rockbox on the main stage.

At the field stage there were some great performances by several dance studios as well as a performance and dance lesson by the Harbour City Hoppers. There was even an aerial performance by Circus Akimbo.

Our favourite event had to be the Box Car Rally, where kids decorated their own box car then raced against each other. Once the kids had their turn, it was time for the parents! Prizes were then presented by a Police representative.

We Survived!

Sunday morning we were privileged to witness the sun come up behind the sign of HOPE, a spectacular sight indeed!

Hornsby RSL kindly donated and cooked up egg and bacon rolls for all participants, a time to recharge and refuel ready for the final laps.

After breakfast, Dog Hour began and everyone got ready for the Team Award Celebration and closing ceremony.

The Hornsby Relay For Life is such an amazing event to be involved in.

I think it's safe to say that cancer has touched all of our lives in one way or another. We heard amazing stories of survival, stories of hope, and stories remembering those who lost the fight, but the greatest part of this event was witnessing the community that it has created.

Every single person was there for the same cause, and together they are stronger. Together we're trying to kick cancers butt!!

A massive $80,000 was raised at this event, which means the more people who participate, the more we can raise money for such a great cause.  2020 registrations are now open and planning is underway for the HALLOWEEN inspired relay on 31st October at Rofe Park, Hornsby Heights.
